Mahindra and Mahindra is considering Tivoli for the Indian car market as per one of our sources. The Ssangyong Rexton’s initial sales were good and since then its growth has been slowed down. The Ssangyong Tivoli is the Korean brand’s automaker new compact SUV and it comes with a 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options, which will be manufactured in India as well.

The 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine options on the S101 are the three-cylinder derivatives of the 1.6-litre engine. Moreover these engines will be tuned for Indian emission norms. The Tivoli will be priced at INR 14-16 lakhs (on-road) and will be pitched against the Hyundai Creta. The Tivoli will come with keyless entry, touchscreen system with navigation, climate control, reverse parking sensors and rain sensing wipers too.

Mahindra is considering the Tivoli over the Korando, as the latter is more expensive and the segment that it enters, consumers generally demand for a muscular SUV that  crossover.

So, the Tivoli is a better bet than the Korean, and becomes a better bet for India.

The Mahindra brand is still to launch two new compact SUVs in India, S101 and the Quanto facelift.

The Tivoli is likely to be assembled at Mahindra’ new Chakan facility, which already manufactures the XUV500 and the TUV300. The S101 will also be made at this plant as well.
