Fiat’s promising new sedan and the potential replacement for the Linea, the Egea (nee Tipo) has already entered production at the manufacturing plant  in Turkey. Word is now trickling in that the upcoming sedan has gone on to garner 20,000 bookings already – a number that’s climbing steadily as you read this. Fiat officials are reportedly stoked with this development (naturally, a proud & joyous moment for them) and it is reported that the manufacturer is potentially on-track to meeting its 8000 unit sales target for this year.

Given the strong response from buyers, Fiat is due to ramp up production in the coming months and is gearing up to breaking all previous sales records with the Egea (nee Tipo) Sedan. If things do proceed as expected (and manufacturer as well as fans will indeed be hoping for it), we could very well see the Fiat Egea becoming the best selling model in the segment in the coming year.

The four-and-a-half metre long sedan measures about 1.78 metres wide and has a height of 1.48 metres. With a longish wheelbase stretching 2.64 metres and boot-space being a copious 510 litres, the Egea will feature both, diesel as well as petrol engines under the hood. Powered by three engine choices –  a sixteen-valve 1.4 Litre FIRE Petrol along with the twin diesel motors viz: the 1.3 Litre, 95 bhp Multijet II and a 1.6 Litre, 120 bhp version, the Linea replacement promises to have the go with the looks.

Fiat is planning to sell the Turkish built Egea/Tipo in all the key markets, some forty locations including Europe, Africa & the Middle-East. While there has been no concrete moves from the manufacturer confirming the same for the Indian market, it is likely that the Egea/Tipo will be the model replacing the aging Linea sedan here.

Exciting times indeed for all Fiat fans here, and around the globe.
