Apart from expanding its product line-up, KTM is working on improvising its current range of motorcycles in India. KTM currently sells the Duke200 and Duke390 which are street-fighter styled, naked motorcycles and the RC200 and RC390, which are full-fairing sports bikes.

KTM plans to introduce an Electronic Throttle to their RC range of motorcycles as an upgrade next year. The new upgrade will provide better throttle response and control. Electronic throttles are now getting popular and most high-end bikes feature this technology, which is also known as ‘ride-by-wire’. KTM has positioned their RC range of motorcycles as more premium compared to the Duke and hence they will be introducing this feature exclusively in the RC200 and RC390.

The electronic throttle is sourced from the Japanese supplier, Keihin Corporation and is already fitted in motorcycles like the Duke 690 and the Super Duke 1290, in overseas markets.

An electronic throttle eliminates the throttle cables connecting the throttle and the throttle body and replaces them with an electronic connection.

The throttle device consists of an electrically powered throttle valve and a contactless sensor for  feedback. The electronic engine management regulates the throttle valve electrically.

The position of the accelerator throttle acts as a trigger input and the requirements of systems that can influence engine torque. It also forms the basis for including adaptive cruise control and active safety systems such as  motorcycle stability control system.

KTM is also planning to introduce an Adventure version with a 250cc engine in 2016.
