Ford Endeavour comes with 10 speed gearbox

The BS6 emission norms are having an effect on all manufacturers across the country. Many have decided to axe some cars all together such as Toyota while others will change the variants that are available in their cars and also discontinue their diesel cars for the time being as the norms for diesel cars have become very strict. The diesel engine is a signature dish for big SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour and therefore there is no option of discontinuing the diesel options as this will drastically reduce the sales figures.

Ford Endeavour engine

The Ford Endeavour will be offered in a diesel variant although the famous 3.2 will now be discontinued. Also, the 2.2 that was earlier offered will also be discontinued, rather there will be an all-new 2.0 litre diesel that will be offered. Power wise the new 2.0 litre will be somewhere in between the 2.2 and the 3.2 as it produces 170 bhp horsepower and 420nm of torque. For reference the 2.2 produced 160bhp and 385Nm of torque and the 3.2 produced 200hp and 470nm of torque.

Ford Endeavour gearbox

Although the car is down in power which will be noticeable when driving, a good gearbox can always add on to the performance of the car. Ford plans to do this with its ten speed gearbox. The gearbox is known for its off-roading capabilities. The transmission also comes with a lot of tech for off-roading such as Progressive Range Selection which lets you lock-out gears so the transmission doesn’t shift up, real-time adaptive algorithms that let it skip gears when the driver’s in a hurry. The Endeavour does not come with paddle shifters. Instead, it gets a thumb-operated manual gear selector. It gets a mileage of 13.9 kmpl.

Competition and pricing

The BS6 Endeavour also competes with the Isuzu MU-Max and the Mahindra Alturas G4. It will be priced around 1-2 lakh higher than the outgoing model. Check out our video on the Endeavour with its competition:
