Hero MotorCorp is taking a big leaps by extensively upgrading the current vehicles and also by bringing the new bikes into the market. Hero recently unveiled a new entry-level naked sports bike the Xtreme 160R. The new bike will be joining the previously established Xtreme family and will be the smallest in the family. The price hasn’t been revealed by the manufacturer but is supposed to be competitive within the segment. Let’s see what all features and specifications the upcoming Xtreme 160R possess.

Design / Aesthetics

The Hero 160R is inspired by the Xtreme 1R concept which was showcased at the EICMA 2019. The design is however a subjective, but those who loved the concept of Xtreme 1R will definitely love the Xtreme 160R. The bike gets the full-LED headlamps with the daytime running DRLs. The headlamp unit is four part unit that makes it appear unique and attractive. It gets a well integrated tank shrouds, which increases the bulkiness of the bike. The tail light is a smoked out LED unit, which looks pretty cool enough to grab attention. It gets first in the segment LED indicators. The grab handles are integrated with the body panel for the cleaner look design.

Ergonomics

The seating position is quite upright and relaxed. It is easily accessible to the the average sized Indian. However, the rear seating position is significantly upward, similar to KTM RC’s, it will be difficult to access for the Indian women’s. The college goer’s will be loving this kind of the seating position.

Features

The Hero Xtreme 160R gets the full digital negative display instrument cluster, somewhat similar to the R15. The feature we liked the most was the hazard light switch and the side stand engine inhibitor.

Engine

As the name suggests, the Hero Xtreme 160R gets the 160 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled unit that produces 15 bhp max power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is a BS6 compliant unit and comes mated with the 5-speed manual transmission. The bike weights just 138.5 kg, and is the lightest vehicle in the segment. Considering the weight, the bike has the best in segment power-weight ratio. It will be interesting to see whether it has dethroned TVS Apache in terms of acceleration.

Hardware

The Bike is equipped with pretty upmarket hardware units. The suspension duty is handled by the telescopic suspension at front and mono-shock suspension at rear. It gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 100-section front tyre and 130-section rear tyre. It gets an option of the dual-disc option.

Price

The pricing is expected to be competitive in the segment. It is expected to be priced around RS 1 lakh(ex-showroom). It will be competing against the Suzuki Gixxer, TVS Apache and Honda Hornet. It is expected to launch somewhere around March 2020. Along with the Xtreme 160R Hero also showcased Passion Pro BS6 and Glamour BS6.
