Aprilia SXR 160 is a maxi-scooter offering from the brand.

It was unveiled today by Piaggio India at Auto Expo. The bookings will commence from the month of August and are slated to launch in Q3 of 2020. To know more about the features and specifications of the upcoming SXR 160, scroll below.

Design

The body styling is similar to the regular maxi-scooter. However, the company calls it the ‘Crossmax Design’ category.

It gets the full-LED headlamp setup with LED DRLs outline. The headlamp setup is similar to Aprilia’s sports bike headlamps- three-compartment styling.

The tail lamps too are embedded with LED DRLs. The scooter will be offered in four coloured options- Red, Blue, White and Black.

Ergonomics

The scooter has a similar chassis as of SR 160. Apparently it has a different rake angle than SR 160, which eventually translates into a longer wheelbase. This let’s have a scooped out front panel which offers better leg and knee room for long journeys. It certainly has better-cushioned seats than the SR160.

The scooter comes with a fully digital LCD instrument cluster, which will have smart connectivity options. It will be quite similar to TVS NTorq’s SmartXonnect. The Aprilia SXR 160 will possess many practical features compared to SR 160 such as large under-storage area and big pillion seat.

Engine

It will be powered by the same SR 160 engine. The engine is a single-cylinder 160cc, air-cooled unit producing around 10.86 bhp max power and 11.6 Nm max torque. The engine will be connected with the CVT gearbox. The engine is a BS6 compliant unit, which means it will have a fuel injection system.

The SXR 160 comes with the 12-inch both front and rear five-spoke alloy wheels, unlike SR 160 which gets 14-inch wheels. However small wheels will produce more grunt at lower rpm to overcome the addiction of weight over the SR 160.

The braking duty is handled by a disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear, assisted by single-channel ABS.

Price

The company has not revealed the pricing, but one can expect it to be priced Rs 10,000-12,000 more than Aprilia SR 160. For reference, SR 160 is priced at Rs 85,531 (ex-showroom). Along with the SXR 160, the company might launch SXR 125 or sometime later. The SXR 160 will compete against Suzuki Burgman Street.
