Tata Blackbird to launch soon?

Tata seems to be having some major plans for the Indian market. It has plans to get into different segments of the market and is already leading the race with its EV launches. The main focus is said to be on the SUV segment with the company having the Nexon and the Harrier as its SUV lineup. There is a considerable gap between the two cars and Tata aims to fill this gap in with the car codenamed the Tata Blackbird. Find out more details below.

Overview

The Tata Nexon and the Tata Harrier are both doing very well in their respective segments. Since Tata understands what the Indian customers are looking for in India, it plans to focus on the SUV market and get the most of it. Right now the segment that is really blowing up is the segment of compact SUVs with the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos taking the majority of the sales. The Tata Harrier becomes too big and a bit expensive for this market, therefore Tata aims to fill this in with its compact SUV codenamed the Blackbird.

Tata Blackbird platform

Now Tata tried to develop the Tata Blackbird inhouse itself with the two platforms available, the Alfa which is seen on the new Altroz and the Omega which is seen on the Tata Harrier. They tried to stretch the Alfa but they were facing problems by doing this, and this was also the case when they tried to shorten the Omega. Therefore, they decided to borrow the platform and plans to have a joint venture with the Chinese company Cherry which has been looking to enter the Indian market for a long time. Cherry already has a platform that Tata was looking for and therefore Tata will bring this in jointly with the company along with its own design to the car. Cherry is already in a Joint Venture with Land Rover in China and therefore this is not a completely new company for Tata.

Blackbird features and competition

The Tata Blackbird is expected to be loaded with a host of features both on the outside as well as inside. Also with Tata making a name for itself in safety, it is also expected to get the full 5-star rating. It will be having fierce competition in the likes of the popular Kia Seltos and the upcoming Hyundai Creta that is expected to launch soon. Tata is also expected to launch an electric version of this Suv soon after its launch with Tata’s dedication to the EV segment and a greener environment.

Tata Blackbird pricing and launch

The Tata Blackbird is expected to be launched not before 2021 and will be priced around the 10-11 lakh mark(ex-showroom). The car is expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 India taking place next week in 12 car lineup of Tata in the Expo. Check out our review on the Tata Tiago BS6:
