Continue reading to find out more information about this car and whether it will be launched.

What triggered the discussion?

The Nissan Leaf was launched globally in 2010, getting a major redesign in 2017, this year would be the right time for Nissan to get into the market as India is attracting all global manufacturers to launch their EVs and especially after the success of the Hyundai Kona and the solid number of bookings that the MG EZ SV has garnished even before its actual launch. Last year, Nissan had created a bit of a stir, when it showcased the Nissan leaf powering a special screen that was showcased at a mall in Chennai, displaying an ICC world cup match between India and Afghanistan.

Nissan Leaf International Features

The International Nissan Leaf is powered by the EM57 electric motor. It produces 150ps of power and 320 NM of torque. The range, that is often considered to be as an issue amongst electric cars.

But this car actually promises to give a maximum of 400kms of range. How much of that translates into the real world we will have to see once we get the vehicle, but even so, that is an impressive range. It has proved to be hugely popular in the global market because of its practicality.

It has ample amounts of boot space and also an interesting exterior design as well as a modern interior with features such as an 8.0-inch infotainment system. This infotainment system has Apple Carplay and Android Auto.  The car gets a digital instrument cluster and also a host of safety features such as automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.

Will it be made in India?

There is yet no confirmation about the launch of the car but officials from Nissan have said before that they are looking for a plan so as to bring down the production costs of the car and therefore successfully target the masses. Therefore, there could be a possibility of the car being locally assembled by the company in India. If they do locally assemble then it will surely get the price of the car down to a competitive range and it will also be an interesting addition to the EV market.
