Toyota brought the Toyota Fortuner in 2009 and it became an instant hit. The Toyota Fortuner BS6 is a vehicle which is very important for the company. After Innova, the Fortuner is a vehicle that sells the most.

Although both these vehicles are 7 seaters they do not compete with each other. The consumer base of the vehicle is separate. Being an important vehicle for the company, it has decided to roll out the BS6 version as soon as possible. WIth BS6 complaint vehicle, the price is the most talking point. The Fortuner will see a price hike of 15% to 20%.

This means that the vehicle will become Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh expensive depending upon the variant.

In terms of mechanical, the Toyota Fortuner BS6 will get a decent amount of updates. It will make use of new filters and a revised exhaust system. Now we are not sure if there will be any drop in power. But if the engine is kept the same and the more exhaust filters are used then it will see some change in the power figures. Currently, the vehicle makes use of a 2 engine the 2.7 L petrol engine which makes a power of 163 bhp and has a massive torque of 245 Nm. The diesel engine is a 2.8 L. This engine will see some change as making a diesel engine BS6 compliant takes some mechanical changes too. The engine currently produces a power of 175 bhp. The torque of the diesel engine is a whopping 450 Nm.

The current price of the vehicle ranges from Rs 27.83 lakh to Rs 33.60 lakh. The price difference if not justified with the additional features will look like an unnecessary increase. Toyota will then offer more features like a new touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

This will affect the sales of the vehicle in the long run. The company is planning to discontinue the diesel Etios line up. This includes the Liva hatchback, sedan and the cross over. This will be done as upgrading the diesel engine on the Etios is an expensive affair. We are also expecting a facelift on the Innova which is another good selling MPV from Toyota. Maruti Suzuki which is the India partner of Toyota had announced that it would remove diesel from their entire lineup. But now it is planning to bring back the diesel on its bigger vehicles. The plan to ditch diesel was joined with Renault and Volkswagen. Tata too will do away with its 1.05-litre diesel engine unit on the Tiago and Tigor. Some brands like Hyundai, Tata and Toyota are making sure customers get a diesel option if they want one.
