After much speculation of the Nexon Electric, and 2 teaser campaigns today it was finally unveiled. The vehicle made its world premiere in Mumbai. The launch is expected in January 2020. The booking of this vehicle will start from tomorrow at Rs 21,000. Today we have provided you with a walk around and overall impression of the vehicle at its unveiling. Here are 5 things that Tata is going to offer on this vehicle which is made by keeping mind the Indian customer comfort.

Variants

This electric vehicle – The Tata Nexon EV will be available in 3 variants. They will be XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX. The entry-level vehicle will have automatic climate control and 2 drive modes for the vehicle. It will be offered with keyless entry and a push-button start. That means that these will be available on every variant. This variant will get only a single tone paint scheme. The dual-tone paint scheme will be offered within the higher variants. This means that the XZ+ variant and above will have this option. It also gets 16-inch diamond wheels a 7-inch infotainment system, a rear camera also has a leather-wrapped system. The top-spec variant will get the sunroof and automatic wipers. The headlights will also be automatic and an offering of leather seats will be seen.

New Electric Battery

The new electric battery of this vehicle is IP67 certified. This gives it protection from dust and water. The battery is of 30.2 kWh. It produces a power of 95 kW which roughly translates into 129 bhp. The torque on this vehicle is 245Nm. The battery gets a guarantee of 8 years/ 1, 60,000 km. This puts the buyer in a carefree position while buying this vehicle. Also, the vehicle gets regenerative braking which is tuned for Indian driving conditions. All this results in great overall performance. It claims to give a range of 300 Km. The vehicle is capable to hit 60 Km/h in 4.6 secs and it will do 100 Km/h in 9.9 sec.

So overall this Ziptorn EV technology by Tata makes sure that the vehicle can claim a ⅕ cost of an IC engine vehicle. Tata also claims that they have tested the vehicle for more than 1 million km in various terrains. Tata has tried to make this electric vehicle such that it finds the optimum slot between the usual anxiety of an electric vehicle buyer and the cost of an electric.

Design Language

The biggest challenge faced by the Tata Nexon is the design language. This new refreshed design on the Tata Nexon will be the inspiration for the normal IC engine Nexon too. Usually, this does not take place as there are a lot of aspects where the designs of an IC engine vehicle different from the design of an electric vehicle.  The batteries of an electric vehicle take up space on the floor. The Nexon team has successfully managed to get this done without changing the space on the interiors. The second thing that they have made the Nexon electric to look subtly different from the IC engine Nexon. The car gets a blue accent at places were on the existing Nexon there are white bands. A tri arrow design is seen in the vehicle this has been also shown on the concept at the Geneva motor show. It is a part of the Impact 2.0 design language that Tata has put into use.  The colour of the vehicle is also very smartly selected and they call it an electric teal blue.

Improved connectivity

The Nexon Electric comes with an App. The app is provided with all the diagnostics for the vehicle. It shows the charging and one can do a lot of stuff with the app. The app also allows the vehicle to switch on the lights and honk if necessary. The remote commands like tow away alerts are also available on the app. All in all, it has 30 other features which are more of a well thought of features. The app also connects with the infotainments system thereby providing more connectivity.

Why buy an electric?

Buying an electric in India at this moment creates a lot of anxiety in the buyer’s mind. Tata has taken care by keeping the cost in check. The approximate drive of a person is around 30 – 40 km. So they have provided a range of 300 km. Moreover the vehicle will also have been has a water wading capacity. This means that the vehicle will be ready for the monsoons. Secondly, our government has the aspiration of making India at 30% by 2030. The government has given a subsidy of Rs 10,000 cr. Tata has surveyed and come up with a conclusion that there are 87% of people who are aspiring to buy an electric vehicle. The charging infrastructure is also building slowly in developed cities which will make charging easy. Till then there are ways to charge the vehicles with normal 15-ampere chargers. Lastly, the vehicle is the non-polluting vehicle which helps in sustainable development.
