Ford will be launching the 2016 model year version of the Ecosport. This is the company’s compact SUV and Ford had created this segment. The Ecosport will get signature light guide, daytime running LEDs, electro-chromic mirror and even rain-sensing wipers. This will be priced at about INR 5,000-20,000 more than the currently sold Ecosport.

The diesel engine on the compact SUV will now be producing about 98bhp, about 8 horses more than the current one. This will not just be more powerful but even more fuel-efficient too. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will be even made available in a mid-level Trend+ variant too.

The base model of the Ecosport will possess one airbag and from the second model, dual airbags will be a standard feature. Ford will not compromise on safety by any means. “EcoSport was a segment breaker, it underlined that Ford could deliver what the Indian customer wants. There is a need to keep the product fresh … our new attempt is to hold on to our numbers if not grow it,” Ford India President and Managing Director Nigel Harris said, confirming the plan to ET.

Ford Ecosport’s improved model will help Ford gain a greater ground, especially after it has launched the new Figo and Figo Aspire very recently. The added LEDs will make the Ecosport look a lot more stylish and appealing. Ford earlier offered LEDs on the Ecosport, but those were only dealer fitment.
