Renault has big plans with their CMF-A platform, which has been built in India under the Renault-Nissan alliance. The CMF-A platforms underpins the recently launched small car Renault Kwid, which has set a benchmark within its segment and is the current buzz in town.

In an interview with Autocarpro, Gérard Detourbet, Alliance Managing Director, Alliance A-Segment development unit . who is also considered the Father of the Renault Kwid, said ,”My hope is to be able to produce let’s say not very quickly, but relatively quickly, more than 1 million cars per year. Multiply by ten. That’s 10 million.”

The Kwid was launched in India last month at INR 2.85 lakhs (on-road) and it has already shaken up the market. The Kwid happens to be the first car to be launched on the CMF-A platform, which stands for ‘Common Module Family’ and is completely designed and developed in India, as also it is heavily localised. It will also be the very first platform to be exported.

This platform will be shared with other Renault products globally and a majority of parts will be exported from India, wherever the CMF-A platform will be used. There would also be products under Nissan /Datsun brands made on this platform and the immediate product after the Kwid will be the Datsun Redigo.
