The leisure motorcycling segment is red-hot at the moment with plenty of traction coming at the higher end of the market. In the sub-500cc class however, it has been Royal Enfield’s show all the way, with Bajaj Auto & their Avenger 220 being the only notable competition.

The Pune-based manufacturer is now reading up to expand their cruiser-bike line-up with the launch of a brand new Avenger. Powered by the 200cc DTSi motor, the Avenger 200 as it is likely to be christened is expected to be available at Bajaj showrooms from December, 2015. We had, in-fact brought you the scoop on this back in August.

The Avenger 200 is expected to be launched with fuel-injection as standard. The older, Avenger 220 shall continue to be sold alongside the new model. The manufacturer is expected to price the motorcycle around the INR 1.4 Lakhs (on-road). That’s not all however, as next year, sometime towards the end of 2016, Bajaj Auto shall add further competition to the sub-500cc leisure motorcycles segment in the form of the 400cc Avenger. Expect the manufacturer to play around with the styling, giving it a more grown-up, performance driven edge that’s in-line with its higher capacity engine.

In-fact, Bajaj Auto has already begun testing the bike, and we look forward to bringing you the spy-shots as we track the test-mules on the streets. With this, Bajaj Auto looks to be firming up plans on mounting a serious challenge to the segment leader – Royal Enfield who has had a free run so far.
