Nissan will be making the new-generation Micra in Chennai and exporting to other markets except Europe. As the new Micra that will be sold in Europe will be manufactured in Europe itself.

Now, there is more clarity on what will happen at the company’s Chennai plant. Expect this Micra to make it to India by 2016.

When IAB spoke to Christian Mardrus – Senior Vice President, Chairman of the Management Committee for Africa, Middle East, and India (AMEI). He stated, “there are a number of models which have a similarity for the AMEI region. So if we are doing it right, we may expect that our plant in Chennai could be a good source factory for the AMEI region overall,” he explained, when asked if the next gen Micra would be made in Chennai.

“We have a good visibility of what can be achieved at the Chennai plant, and then of course improving our competitiveness for the domestic market, but also then to have some models that can be exported from India,” he further added.

Nissan will have a different Micra for Europe and developing markets, so it seems that the one for the European market will be manufactured in Renault’s facility, which will also make another Nissan MPV, the Note as well.

Nissan and Renault already have the CMF platform in India and making the new Micra on CMF-B might not be an increased cost. Most likely, the Nissan Micra will be based on the Sway concept that had been recently showcased. The European Micra is for sure to look like that, now the question that remains is if the Made-in-India Micra will also look the same.
