Nissan along with Renault has been working on a new range of engines for the Indian car market.

The new-generation X-Trail will be launched with the 1.6-litre dCi engine. This engine produces about 130bhp of power and comes mated to a six-speed manual and automatic transmission options.

The X-Trail is powered by a new diesel engine and this is the only mill that is available on this SUV.

The Japanese automaker cannot use the 1.5-litre K9K as that will be underpowered for this SUV. Hence, the 1.6-litre engine, which is a four-cylinder engine will be used for the X-Trail. The Qashqai and the Kadjar are also likely to get this engine as well.

A three-cylinder version of this engine will be a 1.2-litre one that will be powering the new-generation Micra and other hatchbacks. The French-Japanese duo have a plan to launch four more compact vehicles in the coming years and this is where the smaller engine will be used.

Nissan will be getting the X-Trail, Qashqai and the Patrol in the next couple of years, while Renault is working towards introducing Captur and Kadjar in the Indian car market. The Micra range will not be exported from 2016-17 towards, and the duo will look at exporting other products.
