Hyundai’s Santro and then the i10 were being offered as Mumbai’s black and yellow taxi cab. Now, the Korean automaker is looking at entering the private cab market with its XCent. Reaching out the buyers of Ola Cabs and Uber cab partners is where the company wants to get in this time around.

The XCent hasn’t been doing well in sales numbers and with this, it will help Hyundai to enhance its numbers. The other automaker that wants to capitalise of this is Renault with its seven-seater Lodgy. The Lodgy will be making its way into the same segment.

Maruti Suzuki too is pushing the Ritz into the Mumbai yellow and black cabs, but at the moment Hyundai is dominating it with the i10.

The Santro Xing has been discontinued and so now the brand is pushing sales for the i10. The Indian taxi market is believed to be $6-9 billion and it is estimated to grow every year by about 12-13 percent. The industry expects the new car sales for this segment to be about 60,000-90,000 annually. At the moment, Toyota has one of the largest presence in this segment with the Etios family and the Innova.
