Fiesta-17

Ford has tasted a fair bit of success since the post-Figo era, but the company recognized that their model line-up was beginning to look a bit dated. Ergo the recent efforts to revamp their product portfolio.

The Figo is a brilliant hatch and has proved to be a money-spinner for the company. However, it had begun to fade in comparison to better equipped and stylish products from the competition. The Classic, nee, the original Fiesta is the next model to be discontinued. Having enjoyed a stellar run, Ford had recently served up its replacement in the form of the excellent Figo Aspire and hence, the Classic is getting the axe.

The upcoming festive season should see Ford launching a thoroughly modernized and updated Figo hatchback that should take the fight right back to the competition.

The Fiesta on the other hand has witnessed a sub-par response. Even a mid-model facelift and a significant downward revision in the sticker price failed to boost sales. The brilliant driving dynamics notwithstanding, Ford India have chosen to drop the Fiesta from their line-up. While it is a sad moment for motoring enthusiasts, the company must be commended to have taken such a bold move in axing the car. So it is good that Ford chose to swallow this bitter pill rather than live with the low double-digit sales figures that the Fiesta had seen in the past quarter.

With the Figo Aspire already out and the new-generation MY2015 Figo hatchback due for launch, Ford India are also gearing up for their third launch of the year – the new-generation Endeavour.

Ford shall also be fulfilling a long awaited dream and launching their iconic Mustang in India in the current financial year. Thus, the Ford India stall at the 2016 Auto Expo is all set to being a true crowd-puller.
