Suzuki is planning to preview the next-generation Swift Sport concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. According to reports, the preview will be done to give a glimpse into the next generation of the popular hatchback from Suzuki.
The Swift Sport concept is expected to have a rally-style body kit, 18-inch wheels and also a hybrid unit, which is the ‘S-Energy’ system from Suzuki and will comprise of a 1.4-litre petrol engine and an heavy duty electric motor. The car may also be equipped with an AWD system called ‘All Grip’, that will aid in improving handling and offer better traction during acceleration.
It is yet to be seen what design language will Suzuki follow for the Swift, as the overall design concept in the current generation car has been carried over from the first generation one. However, it is expected that the design will have similarities to the YRA hatchback (Baleno).
As the Swift remains a popular car in India, one can expect to see the Swift Sport concept at the Auto Expo in 2016. India is a priority market for Suzuki and hence the India launch also may be simultaneous to a global launch, expected in 2017-18.
