App based cab service operators have been wooing car owners to ditch their cars and opt for their services instead. They have also been making a strong case on how their services are cheaper than buying a car and maintaining it. Apart from the convenience and the reduced travel costs, app-based cab services also seek to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, thereby driving down congestion on the roads.

While these may have been proved to be a boon for those looking to take the skull drudgery out of the daily commute, car manufacturers have been laughing all the way to the bank. The taxi business happens to be a demanding one. The cars here are on the road for a significantly longer time than the average privately owned car. Operators and drivers frequently opt for cars that are not only frugal, but also those that come with lower operating & maintenance costs.

So far, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Motors have proved to be the ones benefiting from the new wave of app based cab services spreading across the country. The DZire Tour or the regular, full-boot version of the DZire has once again emerged on top, with the car becoming the de-facto choice for drivers. Another car that’s merrily singing the same tune is Toyota’s Etios. Both cars wouldn’t win the beauty stakes by a mile, but when it comes to no-nonsense motoring at the lowest running costs and a relatively comfortable ride, there’s no beating these two.

As app based cab services look to expand across the country, the two car manufacturers are only going to benefit from this unusual sales source. Thus proving the adage well, that there’s still a vastly untapped market for no-nonsense, frugal cars.
