The EcoSport, Ford India’s compact SUV, manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant, has crossed the 200,000 sales landmark which includes both domestic sales as well as exports . While the domestic sales are 112,085 units, the exports touched 87,915 units.

The EcoSport was first unveiled, globally at the Auto Expo 2102 and its production commenced in June 2013.  The vehicle opened up a completely new segment in the Indian passenger car industry and had received a very good initial response from Indian customers, which was a record 60,000 bookings within 30 days of launch. In 2013-14, Ford India recorded a sale of  45,008 units and in 2014-15, it sold 52,058 units . In the current year, 15,019 EcoSports have already been sold in the period April-July 2015 .

On the occasion, Anurag Mehrotra, executive director (Marketing, Sales & Service), Ford India said, “The EcoSport, since its launch, has been appreciated for its compelling value proposition and we would like to thank all our customers for their patronage.” He also added,“The EcoSport created the compact SUV segment and dominates the market owing to its unmatched value. The 200,000 sales milestone is yet another testament to the inherent strengths of our compact SUV that continues to set new benchmarks even in a challenging market.”

The EcoSport, from India, is currently exported to South Africa, Taiwan, Australia and certain European countries. It had also topped J D Power’s Initial Quality Study (IQS) for 2014 in the SUV segment.
