Mahindra to name the U301 on 30th July

Mahindra will be announcing a new brand name, which is at the moment codenamed as U301. This will be a new brand that will have multiple different products based on the new platform that will have a compact SUV, a full size SUV and even a commercial vehicle. Our sources suggest that the U301 could have one of the following names Supro, Nuvosport or an alphanumeric name like TUV300/CUV300 or XUV300.

There will be a Supro Maxitruck too, so it could even be the Supro. These are likely to be on the same platform.

Mahindra will launching the U301 in the coming month and it will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that will be producing 98bhp of power. This is the same engine that is used on the Quanto, however it will be updated with some engine modifications.

At the same time, the 1.5-litre engine will now even get an AMT (automated manual transmission) too.

The U301 is a seven-seater and it is under 4 metres in length. The Mahindra U301 has an integrated music system, centrally located power windows (like the old Scorpio). Mahindra’s U301 will be targeting rural car buyers with this new SUV. The Bolero will continue to be sold along with the Mahindra U301, as that is full-size seven-seater, while this is a smaller one. The Quanto facelift and even the S101 (micro-SUV) will be other two compact SUVs that will be coming in this year.

Mahindra doesn’t have a strong compact SUV at the moment and it will want to storm the segment with three of them.
