A non-camouflaged VW Polo GTI has been caught on camera and which suggests that another launch might be soon on the cards for VW.

 

The GTI would be aimed at performance enthusiasts and would also be in line with VWs positioning with regards to racing in India.  The picture was captured by a reader of indiancarsbikes.in and it suggests enthusiasts are on for an exciting offering.

The currently offered Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is powered by a 1.2 litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine does duty in the automatic variants of Vento sedan too, that produces 105 PS max power @ 5,000 rpm and 175 Nm peak torque @ 1,500 rpm, the upcoming VW Polo GTI will be powered by 1.8 litre TSI engine churning our 189 bhp.

This engine also powers Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb albeit in a lower state of tune. It is still not clear what power output will VW offer in the Polo GTI. The engine of the GTI is mated to the acclaimed 7-speed DSG unit, that helps this hot hatch achieve 0-100 kmph acceleration in just 6.7 seconds. Top speed is rated internationally at 236 kmph. A manual variant with 6-speed could be offered in India too.

VW has been very active in the racing scene in India with the acclaimed Polo Cup.  Its racing heritage was brought to the Indian streets with the Polo GT TSI and is now aiming at going further with the Polo GTI.

The hot hatch segment in India seems to be further heating up with the Abarth 500 and Abarth Punto slated for launch soon, by Fiat. Enthusiasts who have been grumbling over a dearth of cars in this segment, are now in for a treat with various options cropping up in the coming days.
