Google’s self-driving car collides with another car on test in California. Google Inc revealed that for the first time, its self-driving vehicle was involved in an accident that led to some injuries. This collision happened in the Mountain City of Google’s HQ, where the Lexus SUV (which was fitted with a lot of sensors and cameras) by the search-engine giant was rear-ended. This vehicle from Google had three occupants, each of which have suffered from whiplash (an injury at the back of the neck, where some of the issues are torn).

Along with this, a co-driver is also sent to record the events. In this case, there was also a person sitting on the back seat as well. Google has heavily invested in self-driving car technology and it believes in human safety.

In a statement on their blog, the head of self-driving cars at Google, Chris Urmson stated that “the SUVs are generally hit by distracted drivers” and the company is working finding means to alert the drivers, who are busy looking into their phones etc.

Google’s SUV had stopped at a signal when the other car ramped into the Google SUV at 28km/hr. As per Google on checking the rear sensors, the other car did not brake and hence the collision happened.

Passengers in the second car also reported whiplash injuries.
