Mahindra’s Scorpio will be offered in automatic and this will be the first seven-seater SUV to get an automatic. As Hyundai is gearing up to launch the Creta with a diesel automatic, Mahindra will not want to miss out on this segment. The 4×2 AT variant of the Scorpio will cost INR 14.5 lakhs (on-road) and the 4×4 AT will cost INR 15.8 lakhs.

The Scorpio automatic will be coming with a six-speed self-shifting transmission and there will be no difference in the power rating of this engine. The Scorpio AT will be mated to a 2.

2-litre mHawk diesel engine that will produce 120bhp of power.

This is the new-generation Scorpio and Mahindra is keen to mark its footprint in the automatic SUVs also, even though initially it will be small. There is a demand for diesel automatics and this same transmission will also be used on the XUV500 as well. Though there is no clarity on when could we see the Scorpio AT.

At the moment, there will be only the Scorpio with a diesel automatic in the seven-seater SUVs under 15 lakhs, while the Creta will also be offering a six-speed automatic in its 1.6-litre diesel engine.

Tata is also working on a Safari Storme automatic and this will be launched sometime next year. The Tata Hexa will also be getting an automatic, when it is launched this year. This means, all the SUVs in this price bracket will have automatics except the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
