Mahindra Supro – all the details
Mahindra Supro or TUV300 could be the likely production name for the U301 that has been testing for a while. The Mahindra Supro is based on a new-platform and this will be targeting youth buyers in the rural market. Supro means “Top” in Esperanto and that is what it has been for Mahindra. Mahindra will not call it Bolero, as it will continue to sell the SUV along with the Supro. This was confirmed by one of our sources and see the image at the bottom.
The other part of the story is the Supro will also come with a pick-up version, called as Supro MaxiTruck. This however will be based on the older Bolero MaxiTruck platform and will get several major upgrades too. The Supro is likely to be smaller in size than the Bolero pick-up. The Supro and the 300cc Mojo will be the two major launches in the coming months for Mahindra. The Supro will be soon getting into production in this month itself (July) and the launch can be expected in August or September.
The Mahindra Supro will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that will produce about 100bhp of power and will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission and AMT (automated manual transmission) as well. It will be only available in diesel and two-wheel drive variants. There shall be no four-wheel drive on this version. The Supro’s interior styling is also new and will have seven-seats like the Quanto.
The Supro will get features like integrated music system with Bluetooth, aux and USB, all four power windows, ABS and even airbags. The Supro will be priced between INR 7-10 lakhs (on-road), and this will even include the AMT version. Mahindra has been strong in the UV segment, but it has been lacking in the compact SUVs. With the Supro, Mahindra will look at regaining its market share.
