Nissan India has announced a recall for over 12,000 units of its mutiple cars in the country. The faulty models include Sunny mid-sized sedan and compact hatchback Micra, which are manufactured between June 2013 and March 2015. The fault is said to be in engine switch and airbags. This massive recall in India is a part of the Japanese automaker’s global campaign, which involves recalling of over 2.7 lakhs cars across the globe.

“Nissan is conducting a voluntary recall campaign for about 2,70,000 vehicles on the certain models, including 12,000 vehicles in India,” a company spokesperson said, while asked about the impact of this huge recall worldwide. The company authorized dealers would again on the engine switch at no cost to the customer to avoid excessive interference, the company spokesperson further added. It was also revealed that there are quite a few units of both Micra and Sunny, which are having the airbag issue. Just so you know, Nissan’s airbag supplier is Takata – the Japanese auto parts maker – which is facing crisis all over the world for its damaged airbags. So, all the Nissan Micra & Sunny owners can check to the company dealership to know whether their vehicles fall under the recall or not. Nissan Micra

“Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service, and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this issue,” the spokesperson said. This trend of voluntary recall is not new in India as over 7 lakh vehicles have been called back by the auto companies in the country due to various faults ever since the auto industry body SIAM came into effect in July 2012. Last month, Honda also recalled around 11,381 units of its Accord saloon, CR-V premium SUV and Civic sedan, which were manufactured between 2003 and 2007. It was carried out due to faulty driver side and passenger airbags. Again, with no surprises, they were supplied by Takata.
