Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is just a couple of weeks away from its official India launch and meanwhile the ASEAN NCAP has conducted the crash test of the compact SUV. The tested mule of S-Cross was manufactured at company’s Hungarian plant and was in its Malaysian/Singaporean avatar. The Suzuki S-Cross obtained a 5- Star result for its Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and achieved a 4-Star rating for Child Occupant Protection (COP) with 81% compliance.

The S-Cross scored 15.48 out of 16 for AOP (Adult Occupant Protection), and hence it got a 5-star in this segment. Till date, S-Cross is the leading scorer for the SUV category under ASEAN NCAP as it beat the Honda CR-V which had scored 15.46 (5-Star) for AOP and 86% compliance (4-Star) for COP.

The S-Cross’s mule which underwent crash test had dual front airbags, ABS and ESC as standard safety features. ASEAN NCAP Chairman, Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon said, “I’m glad more SUVs are being crash tested as it has become one of the most favourite vehicles among family car owners especially for long distance driving. The star rating will give consumers higher confidence in purchasing a particular vehicle with certain safety standards.”

Talking about the India-spec Maruti S-Cross, it was unveiled on 7th June 2015 at the IIFA Awards Show in Malaysia. The country’s largest automaker has also launched a dedicated micro-site of the premium crossover and even dealers have started taking orders for the same at a token amount of Rs. 51,000. Maruti has made subtle visual changes in the India version of the S-Cross as compared to the Euro-spec model. Mechanically, it would be powered by Fiat’s 1.

6-litre, four-cylinder diesel motor which would churn out a maximum power of 118bhp, while mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The company hasn’t confirmed whether an AllGrip AWD variant is in offing or not.

Maruti S-Cross would rival the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta in the country.

  • S-Cross safety rating is bit confusing as on the side in the image it mentions that there are 7 air bags … but in actual in S-Cross India there are only 2 . Please correct me if i am wrong
