Maruti Suzuki would foray into light commercial vehicle segment in the country with its new Super Carry, which is codenamed as ‘Y9T’. The company is all set to launch its LCV this year. With this product Maruti Suzuki will debut into the commercial segment and compete with established players like Tata, Mahindra and Force Motors.

R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki said, “We will be launching the new LCV this year itself.

”  The LCV will be a 1 tonne goods carrier. According to an HT Mint report, the delay was caused because the company could not understand the load factor in this segment which it realised during prototype testing in 2014. The company had to correct the flaw and hence redevelop the entire product.

Maruti Suzuki has already started exporting the LCV, named Super Carry, to South Africa and Tanzania from May this year. It dispatched 100 Super Carry LCVs to the two countries.

The Super Carry was spied in production-ready avatar, last year by the folks at GaadiWaadi. It is being learnt that Maruti’s first LCV, the Super Carry  would be manufactured at company’s Gurgaon plant in Haryana. Going by these images, one can clearly see the Suzuki emblem along with ‘Super Carry’ badge at the front fascia. Contrary to this, the rear end flaunts ‘Maruti Suzuki’ symbol with a ‘CNG’ sticker.

It would be introduced in both petrol as well as diesel guise. Reportedly, Maruti is also contemplating a CNG variant with Eeco’s 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine. It would have a power output in range of 35-40bhp. The reports have revealed that the interior belongings of the Maruti LCV would be shared with cheaper products of the company, so that it is budget-friendly. Just so you know, Maruti Super Carry would primarily challenge the Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo Plus in the country.

The diesel variants of the Maruti LCV would be powered by the compamy’s first self-developed 800cc, twin-cylinder DDiS motor. This newly-developed engine has a supreme fuel efficiency of 27.62kmpl and it was recently introduced with Maruti Celerio. It churns out a maximum power of 47bhp and peak torque of 125Nm with the Celerio hatchback and it remains to be seen what changes Maruti makes to this engine to make it compatible with the new LCV Super Carry.

It would be sold through a seaprate range of dealerships.
