BMW will be introducing the new 1 Series this year and the 1 Series sedan will be competing with the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA. The new sedan form the Bavarian-based automaker will be launched in 2016 and should come to India next year as well.

BMW has plans to launch this new sedan in India and this is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is the new three-cylinder engine from the company.

The company will be looking at localisation at a later stage but initially it will be assembling this year in its Chennai plant. BMW 1 Series hatchback will also be offered with this engine and this will help them to reduce the cost of the hatchback and make it a lot more competitive.

The new 1 Series is a front-wheel drive hatchback and even the sedan will be the same. There will be an all-wheel drive (xDrive) on the higher variants of the 1 Series, but that won’t be made available in India.

The 1 Series sedan rendering has been made by Theophilus Chin. The 1 Series sedan is likely to have front-wheel drive and it will be a compact sedan pitting against the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.
