It wouldn’t be an exaggeration if the launch of all-new Honda – slated to take place on 8th July – is termed as the biggest comeback of 2015. This hot hatch from the Japanese automaker didn’t enjoy its first outing in the country due to lack of a diesel engine and wayward pricing. Just so you know, Honda Jazz was firstly launched in Indian market in 2009 with pricing around INR 8 Lakhs above and expectedly, it failed miserably. The obvious reason of its failure was seen as excessive pricing when the Indian market was not ready to pay huge sum for a hatchback. Hence, it was discontinued in 2013 owing to poor sales. But, let bygones be bygones, as Honda, with all guns blazing, is ready to re-launch it, albeit with a diesel heart, belligerent pricing, and much more. Here’s looking at five key facts of the all-new Jazz:

1. Flabbergasting Fuel Economy: New Honda Jazz is all set to own the premium hatchback segment in the fuel economy aspect. As per company, it would return a best-in-class mileage of 27.3km/l in diesel guise, leaving way behind all its contemporaries. It would be the second most fuel efficient car in the country after Maruti Celerio, which delivers an incredible mileage of 27.62km/l. Being based on the City platform, it gets Honda’s tried and trusted 1.5-litre, four-cylinder i-DTEC motor which churns out 99bhp of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque. This engine also does duties to Amaze, Mobilio and City. In Jazz, it would be mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

2. Powerful Petrol Powerplant: All-New Honda Jazz petrol variants would get a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder i-VTEC engine which would develop 88bhp of top power and 130Nm of highest torque. If you thought that’s it, then you got it wrong as here is the big surprise for you – it would be linked to a five-speed CVT automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Again, a first-in-segment for Jazz. However, it would only be offered in the range-topping trim as the rest of the variants would come with a five-speed manual gearbox. Honda Jazz petrol would deliver a mileage somewhere between 18-21kmpl. Honda Jazz 2015

3. Advanced Interior Cabin: Honda Jazz’s interior cabin resembles a lot to its elder sibling, City mid-sized sedan.

It gets several elements from the City such as dashboard, touch-screen AC controls, Start/Stop button, etc. to name a few. It also boasts of a 6.2-inch touch-screen infotainment system in the top-end variant, which is also a first-in-class feature. The top-end variant is also expected to come with magic seats with more comfort and luxury than before. As far as legroom for the rear seat occupants is concerned, it has a wheelbase of 2500mm. Such a huge wheelbase would ensure adequate legroom and best-in-class boot space, perhaps!

4. Exuberant Exterior Design: Honda Jazz’s exterior design is based on the company’s “Crossfade Monoform Exterior”. Given a fresh and higher stance over its predecessor, it is targeted at youth between age group of 20-40 years. The third-generation Jazz has sporty and contemporary design and it is the first time that exterior is designed before interior for any generation of Jazz. It flaunts City-like solid wing face grille, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, Rear spoiler, and Wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators. Honda Jazz 2015

5. Aggressive Pricing: Honda Jazz would have over 90 percent of local content, which would play a pivotal role in its pricing.

The hatchback would be locally assembled at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.

Honda has commenced the advance bookings for the hatch at all its authorized dealerships nation-wide at a token amount of INR 30,000. However, pricing is not out yet but it believed that it would be priced in a bracket of INR 6-9 Lakhs (On-Road). Deliveries would start immediately once the hatch is launched on 8th July in the country.
