Hyundai India is planning to launch a new variant of its Elite i20 hatchback with a touch-screen infotainment system next month in July 2015. The factory-fitted kit would have satellite navigation feature as well.

The touch-screen infotainment system would also have the audio and telephone functions with the range-topping trim of Hyundai Elite i20. It is being learnt that this move is planned due to the arrival of all-new Honda Jazz next month as it comes with an in-built touch-screen unit.

Hyundai Elite i20 has been severely dominating the premium hatch segment ever since its launch in the country in August 2014. Believe it or not, the company had sold over 1 Lakh unit of the hatch in just 7 months of its launch.

Till now, there wasn’t any real threat to the i20 hatch, but come July 8, 2015, and it would get a geniune competitor in form of all-new Honda Jazz. The Jazz would be launched in the exact price range as the Hyundai i20, but it would be offering a touch-screen system, which the i20 doesn’t in any of its variants. Furthermore, it is being said that the base and mid-variants of the Jazz would come loaded with a dial-operated colour screen. Hence, the Jazz’s infortainment system might have prompted the South-Korean automajor to include the same in its hatch and launch it around the same time as Honda Jazz.

Hyundai Elite i20’s top-end variant Asta is priced at Rs. 6.93 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in petrol guise.

Currently, the media drives of the Honda Jazz are going in full swing and for the first time, it is coming with a diesel powerplant. The interior elements are shared with the City mid-sized sedan, which are of premium quality. However, it would be interesting to see what impact does the Jazz puts on the sales of Hyundai i20 as it has been unstoppable as of now, ever since its launch. Also, when two of these hot hatches go on sale next month, they would be the only cars in the segment to offer touchscreen infotainment systems. The new variant of Hyundai Elite i20 with touch-screen infotainment system would sit at the top of its range and might be expensive upto Rs. 30,000 than the current range-topping variant.
