Mercedes-Benz India, in continuation with their bold expansion spree, inaugurated the second phase of their plant, here in Chakan, today. Shri Devendra Fadnavis, the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who graced this auspicious occasion also drove out the first ever Mercedes-Benz GLA to be locally produced, here in India. Also present were dignitaries such as Shri Prakash Javadekar, Honourable Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change; Shri Subhash Desai, Honorable Industry Minister, Maharashtra; Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India.

In addition to doubling their installed capacity from 10000 units to 20000 units per annum with this Phase II expansion, Mercedes-Benz India have also taken their total investment to over INR 1000 crores.

Mercedes-Benz Phase 2

The local assembly of the GLA puts Mercedes-Benz India in an elite group of manufacturing operations that are producing the full range of cars from Sedans and SUV’s to Compact Cars. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India was quick to point out that the local production of the GLA, was inline with the company’s customer centric approach & the firm belief in creating enhanced value for them. Indian customers have declared their fascination for the new generation of product offerings from Mercedes-Benz and the locally produced GLA is only the first of many to come.

The newly inaugurated production facility boasts of using some of the most technologically advanced tools & processes on the shop floor. Sweetening the deal further, Mercedes-Benz India announced the latest prices for the locally produced GLA 200 CDI, with the Style model coming in at INR 35 lakh & the Sport model for INR 39 lakhs (on-road in Pune City).
