Since the start of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make In India campaign, several automakers are making in India, first began small cars and now compact SUVs. Ford and Hyundai will be exporting the Ecosport and the Creta to the North American market from their Chennai plant.

The Hyundai Creta will be launched soon with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and automatic transmission in the North American market, while the Ecosport will be a 1.0-litre Ecoboost and 1.5-litre automatic petrol will be exported by Ford. Both these SUVs will be manufactured in Chennai, and will take the sea route to North America from the Chennai port.

The North American market is predominantly petrol for smaller cars and hence there will be no diesels. Hyundai is also looking at exporting the i20 and th Verna to the North American market with the Creta SUV.

Ford will be exporting the Figo hatchback and full-size sedan to South Africa and other markets from Gujarat. Several automakers will be exporting not just small cars but even mid-size ones from their Indian plant. As there has been an increase in the wages of South Korean labour, several companies are looking at shifting their base from South Korea to India and one of them in General Motors.

For India, Hyundai will be introducing the Creta with two diesel engine options too and there shall an automatic on offer as well.

This will make it one of the best offerings in its segment.
