The Honda Brio-based SUV, codenamed as 2SJ is being made for Indian, Indonesian and even Thai markets. One of our sources close to the factory mentions that the company is looking at launching this SUV in 2017 and we could also expect the Brio SUV to be showcased at 2016 Auto Expo as a concept. As Honda’s second plant’s production capacity is increasing, the company is looking at introducing the Jazz next-month and this will be followed by the new Brio-SUV in the coming year. Honda at the moment has made a few prototypes of the Brio SUV, and the testing is yet to commence on public roads. The Brio SUV will have three engine options, 1.

2-litre and 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine too. The 1.5-litre petrol has been made for Indonesian market and this will be offered along with CVT (continuously variable transmission).

We even checked on Zauba and found that Honda has already started importing prototypes of the Brio-SUV.

The Honda Brio-SUV will be a five-seater and sub 4-metre for India, however for Indonesia and Thailand it shall be longer.

The ground clearance of this SUV will be about 200mm. Our source states that following will be the USPs of the Brio SUV, best in-class space, most powerful diesel engine, best in-class fuel efficiency.

Honda will upgrade the interiors of the Amaze, and somewhat similar styling will reflect on this SUV. However, this will be a lot sporty than premium. This will compete with the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Suzuki YBA.

The price of this compact SUV will be about INR 7-11.5 lakhs (on-road).
