New diesel engines for Discovery Sport

The Discovery Sport, which is Land Rover’s replacement for the Freelander2, which be getting the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines as a replacement to the 2.2-litre diesel engine. The Discovery Sport gets a new engine and it will produce about 148bhp and 178bhp of power. The lower power is for the five-seater version and the latter is for the seven-seater version.

At the moment, the 2.2-litre engine used by Land Rover is outsourced from Ford, and will be a similar engine that will power the new Ford Endeavour. For India, Land Rover will launch the Discovery Sport with a 2.2-litre engine and in the next model year upgrade, it will introduce the new engine too. The petrol Ingenium engine production will commence by this year end so expect the Discovery Sport petrol to get the engine change sometime early next year (predominantly for the US market).

The new aluminium TD4 engine features lightweight construction, with stiff cylinder blocks and decoupled injectors, which ensures low levels of vibration and noise intrusion, further enhancing the driver experience. These vehicles will also feature 18-inch wheels with low rolling resistance tyres. The final drive gearing and engine calibrations have been optimised to provide the lowest possible CO2 for the vehicle. E-Capability introduces a five seat option in the UK for the first time, with all TD4 180PS variants remaining with 5+2 seating as standard.
