Royal Enfield is working towards developing an electric bike, as one of the test mules is now ready for trials. ZigWheels spotted the electric version of the 2005 Royal Enfield, which is using an electric motor and batteries from the Nissan Leaf to power this bike. The builder of this bike has been working on the electric bike for several months and now it has been installed on the motorcycle. This is a completely operational electric motorcycle (Bullet), and the air-cooled 350cc or the 500cc engine and it other components have been removed and substituted by this electric motor. This makes it quiet and even lighter too. The electric motor also takes the place of the transmission and the batteries have been installed where the combustion engine motor was.

Electric Royal Enfield

On the other hand, BikePortal has spotted a Royal Enfield Continental GT with twin cylinders. This will be the first time that RE will come with a two-cylinder bike. This is a 750cc engine, which if aren’t wrong was an idea of a Mumbai based veteran. The 750cc engine has been designed by merging two 375cc engine blocks and this engine is oil-cooled instead of the regular air-cooled engines that are already on sale.

This engine is believed to produce about 45bhp of power and 60Nm of maximum torque. Expect the RE Continental GT’s suspension to be stiffened a bit more to house this engine and also the pricing should be somewhere close to about Rs 3.

5 lakhs on road. Royal Enfield is also working on Himalayan its new adventure bike for India, due to be launched in 2016. This will have about 400cc single-cylinder powering it.
