Mahindra’s Ecosport competition spotted

Mahindra’s Ecosport competitor, codenamed as S101 is due to be launched sometime this year. Mahindra is targeting urban car buyers with its new compact SUV, which will be under 4 metres in length. The Mahindra S101 is expected to be a five-seater and this will be powered by two engine variants, one is a 1.2-litre petrol and second is a 1.5-litre diesel. Both of them are three-cylinder engines and Mahindra will be introducing its new petrol engine that I has developed along with Ssangyong for Indian and other international markets.

The Mahindra S101 has been built on a monocoque chassis and it will be a front-wheel drive. Expect the S101 to be launched this year and the diesel engine will come with an AMT (automated manual transmission) too. Mahindra will also get the new Bolero for rural car buyers. This will be a ladder on frame and will also be a compact SUV. This will be a seven-seater, with the last row having jump seats.

This will also be made on a new platform and Mahindra is looking at making an entry into the compact SUV with the Bolero and the S101. The Bolero will be made available in three variants and it will also get the same 1.5-litre diesel engine like the S101. There won’t be a petrol variant on the Bolero. Mahindra already has the Quanto, which is a compact SUV and this will also undergo a facelift and will be launched this year itself. So, Mahindra will comeback with three compact SUVs for the Indian market. S101 images from IAB. To read know all the details about the new Bolero, click here.
