After the BS6 norms, there were a few cars that had to be discontinued just because they did not have a BS6 engine to continue further. But this is not just the case with BS6 norms. There were cars in the market that were discontinued even when they had a lot of potential.

Toyota Etios and Liva

Toyota Etios Liva

This was the affordable sedan which was a competitor to the Honda City. The Toyota Etios also had a hatchback version called tThehe Liva. They were introduced in 2010 and 2011 subsequently. These were discontinued by Toyota under the BS6 norms and there are no plans to bring this car back with a new engine. Toyota in India is moving in a different direction with their partnership with Suzuki.

Honda Brio

Honda Brio

This car was an affordable hatchback from Honda. The styling of the car with the rear glass boot opener was the most unique feature of this car. Although it was unique a lot of they did not like it as it was too wide. There was a lot of mixed opinion about this car. The car had a smooth engine and the owners had a positive review of this car. When this car was discontinued a lot of people expected Honda to bring a version 2.0 but Honda hasn’t entered that segment again.

Tata Zest and Bolt

tata Zest

The Tata Zest and Bolt were the compact Sedan and Hatchback from Tata. Right now Tata Tigor and Tiago are the most in-demand cars in terms of safety. This was not the case with the Zest and Bolt. They were discontinued due to low sales number and to make space for the Tigor and Tiago. Having 2 cars in the same segment is never beneficial for manufacturers.

Tata Safari

Tata Safari

The discontinuation of the Safari was one of the biggest shocks from Tata. Although the car had lost the butch look that it had when it was launched it was pretty famous among enthusiast. The competition that it got from the Scorpio was something to worry about. The SUV over was a great product but needed updates to stay within the competition. Tata Fans are still waiting for the Safari Next gen but we don’t expect that happening soon. A Hexa Safari edition is on the upcoming list of Tata. Hyundai EON

Hyundai EON

Hyundai EON was Hyundai’s attempt to make a mark in the entry-level hatchback segment. With the EON the pricing was too high and the car competed with all-time India’s favourite Maruti Alto. All this lead to low sales numbers and Hyundai had to pull the plug on this car. Also, Hyundai now has Santro as their entry-level car but it does not enter this highly competitive market where Maruti has most of its products.

Maruti Alto K10

Alto K10

The brand name Alto has been around Maruti discontinued the K10 version of it. The Alto was a car that was to replace the Maruti 800. With the K10, a 1-litre engine was offered on this car. Now Maruti had a brand new product as Spresso and they did not want to break the exclusivity of it with offering the same engine on the Alto K10. If we look at it in a way Alto K10 would have received a better response than the lashback that Spresso received because of its pseudo SUV design.

Nissan Terrano

Nissan Terrano

The Nissan Terrano is the same car as the Renaul Duster. This SUV has a lot to offer in terms of performance. With the new engine it has become the most powerful in its segment. The same success was not of the Nissan Terrano. The pricing was higher than the Duster and the cars looked too identical. Nissan could have relaunched the Terrano in BS6 with a new design but they decided to pull the plug on this car and let all the glory be enjoyed by the Renault Duster.

  • Would like to buy Alturas G4. Mahindra has stopped production of this car. Would like to know if I am going to go with this car, what all challenges I am going to face – will the spare parts be costly, will the maintenance cast be much high, am I going to get the service or not and so on?

    Thank you in advance .
