You can’t call me a moto-nut (there are far more knowledgeable folks out there) but yes, I do love my wheels and look out for every opportunity to spend some time with them. Thus, a basic dashboard polish and a quality shampoo are the core essentials of my maintenance arsenal – along with over half a dozen lint-free dust-cloths and other oddities.

So, Motomax is a name that I’m quite familiar with, having regularly used their products for my four-wheeled beauties. With two-wheels though, things have been a tad different. With two of them nearing the twenty year mark & the other one having been around longer than me by over a decade – I keep their water outings to a minimum. A rubdown with a damp dust-cloth followed by a thorough drying session is what I have to usually resort to, to keep the rust at bay. I do take them for an occasional detailing job, but there’s only as much as you can do with them.

Shiner Spray
Motomax Shiner – Multi Surface Spray Polish

Motomax Shiner:

The result of all this rambling being, the paint on the bike was starting to fade a bit. Then I chanced upon this ‘Shiner’ from Motomax. Apparently, they’ve launched a special range of products for two-wheeler owners, like me. A multi-surface spray polish, the Shiner has a simple four step usage guide that should make this product a breeze.

So I decided to give the Motomax Shiner a go & here’s what transpired:

Shiner-Dull Side Panel, pre-polish
Dull, Faded paint

Washed the bike, wiped it down and let it air out for a while. Took a few snaps here and there, for the ‘Before’ & ‘After’ documentation. Was focusing on the Tank & side-panels, as this is the one area where the paint-fade was most visible, apart from the Mirrors & the Meters (but those for later). Sprayed some ‘Shiner’ into a clean, dry cloth. Spread it evenly over the tank and then let it sit there a bit. A few minutes later, took a dry cloth and gave the tank a thorough rub-down with it.

The results:

Shiner-Gleaming Tank, post-polish

Shiner-Gleaming Tank, post-polish (3)

Shiner-Gleaming Tank, post-polish (2)

The tank & side-panels which were starting to look a tad dull & drab, had gotten some glossy life back into it. The paint was gleaming once again, and looking at it under the bright sky, did get a bit of the sun’s reflection into the eyes. Priced at INR 125 (MRP) for a 100 ml bottle, the ‘Shiner’ is a decent, ‘try-at-home’ option for those who do not wish to be fleeced by mechanics looking to make a fast buck at our expense.

Motomax Insta Shine:

InstaShine Polishing Sponge (1)
MotoMax Insta Shine Polishing Sponge

For those who do not like lugging a liquid spray along, or are searching for a solution that’ll protect your bike when out on a long tour, there’s an even easier option – the Insta Shine, essentially a piece of sponge that’s been soaked in polish. All you’ve got to do is wipe down the preferred metal/trim piece – that’s it.

InstaShine - Before & After - Mirror, prior to polish
Mirror backing – dull, faded
InstaShine - Before & After - Mirror, post polish
Mirror backing – gloss restored
InstaShine - Before & After - Meters,. before polish
Meters – dull, faded
InstaShine - Before & After - Meters, post polish
Meters – gloss restored

Tried the Insta Shine on the Mirror-covers & the meters, and was rewarded with similar results. Only this time there was none of the spray-dry routine to it. The Insta Shine is indeed a compact & handy option to have, say, on a long tour, where you wouldn’t quite be bothered to take a spray out, yet want to protect the paint on the road. Best part is that when the sponge dries out or gets dirty, you can replace it with another one for INR 20 only (MRP).

Verdict:

Both, the Insta Shine Polishing Sponge as well as the Shiner Spray are excellent products that serve their purpose very well. Priced rather economically, their compact packaging & usability ensure that two-wheeler owners can opt for either one based on their requirements. A welcome addition to the care & maintenance pack for any two-wheeler owner for sure.
