Tata Tigor vs Maruti DZire 2017 – Which to buy?

Two new compact sedans have been launched in the market. One of them is the Tata Tigor and the other option is the Maruti DZire 2017. Both of them are new and fresh in the market. Tata Tigor was liked by many of our readers as it looks different has an appealing design to it. Tata Tigor vs Maruti DZire 2017 Price

Based on the pricing, the Tigor is a lot more affordable. The base model pricing starts at INR 4.70 lakhs for petrol and goes up to INR 6.19 lakhs. The diesel starts at INR 5.6 lakhs and goes up to INR 7.09 lakhs. These all being ex-showroom, New Delhi.

The new DZire on the other hand has its petrol pricing starting at INR 5.45 lakhs and going up to INR 8.41 lakhs for the petrol top model AMT. The diesel pricing starts at INR 6.45 lakhs and goes up to INR 9.41 lakhs.

Tata Tigor vs Maruti DZire 2017 Design

On one hand the Tata Tigor looks stylish and appealing. Tata calls it the styleback as it has a sloping roofline. It gets smoked out black headlamps, stylish side profile, diamond cut alloy wheels and LED tail lamps with LEDs even in the spoiler. The Tigor does look appealing and it has a good design as it stands out in the crowd of compact sedans. Based on the same platform like the Tiago, but it has multiple changes that makes it look different from the rest.

The DZire on the other hand looks a lot more premium and appealing in design.  This is the first time that the DZire does look proportionate in design. There is a large front grille,, there are projector headlamps, daytime running LEDs, 15-inch wheels. The rear also gets LED tail lamps. The DZire has seen a change in its platform that makes it lighter, powerful and more efficient. In looks both do look appealing and leave this choice with you.

Tata Tigor vs Maruti DZire 2017 Interiors

On the inside, the Tigor gets simple and subtle looking interiors. The interiors have a touchscreen system with Harman music system that play through four speakers and four tweeters. The Tigor has reverse parking camera, Bluetooth connectivity, an app that will have turn by turn navigation on it. The front row seats are comfortable and spacious, while the second row are comfortable with a good amount of recline on it. The boot too is large with 419 litres of space.

The DZire on the other hand has premium looking interiors. There are a lot of features on offer. Touchscreen system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Reverse camera, keyless entry, push start and stop, maps, rear AC vents with 12V charging also. The rear is comfortable, but the Tigor has better seats. The boot is larger than before, but it is still smaller than the Tigor at 376 litres.

Tata Tigor vs Maruti DZire 2017 Engines

Tata Tigor comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine churning about 84bhp of power and 110Nm of maximum torque. The diesel is a 1.05-litre producing 70bhp of power. Both come with a five-speed manual transmission and there is no AMT on offer at the moment. There are multi-driving modes on the Tigor.

The DZire has 1.2-litrre petrol producing 83bhp and 1.3-litre churning 75 horses. Both come with five-speed manual and AMT options. The DZire has better performance than the Tigor and its engines are a lot more drivable too. So, the DZire does have an advantage in this segment.

Tata Tigor vs Maruti DZire 2017 Mileage

If we go by the ARAI claimed mileage, then the DZire will be the clear winner. However, in the real world both the sedans have highly frugal engines. The DZire 2017 will still have an edge over the Tigor as it will offer better mileage by about 10-15% at the most.

In features, the DZire again gets an advantage. As the DZire 2017 will offer features like Android Auto,  Apple CarPlay, Push start stop, rear AC vents as extra features. On the outside, the DZire gets projector headlamps and daytime running LEDs. This is when the becomes great value for money packages.  However, these do come at an extra cost of about INR 1.4 lakhs. This is a huge difference in pricing and this is where the Tigor has an advantage of getting the best value for money sedan.
