We earlier reported you about the super-success of Maruti Ciaz as the company has sold over 50,000 units of the premium mid-sized sedan in the country within eight months of its launch. Now, we have learnt through ET Auto that it has outsold Hyundai Verna in sales from the first month of its launch with average monthly sales of around 4,500 units. It is positioned at second spot in the mid-sized sedan segment, after the segment-leader Honda City.

The ET report further states that Ciaz’s overwhelming sales have now given Maruti enough confidence to start a new chain of premium car outlets, called Nexa.

The country’s largest automaker would retail Ciaz and S-Cross through this new premium dealership. Reportedly, the first premium dealership Nexa has been opened in Dwarka, New Delhi. If we talk about the sales between September 2014 – May 2015, Honda City sold the most numbers of unit in this period. The Japanese automaker, Honda, sold around 62,702 units of City during this period in the dometic market.

It was followed by Maruti Ciaz, of which around 42,023 units were sold domestically. Just so you know, over 8,000 units of the Ciaz were exported during the aforesaid time period.

Hyundai Verna 4S
New Hyundai Verna 4S was launched in February 2015 in price range of INR 8.50-13.50 lakhs (On-Road, Delhi)

The Ciaz sedan beat Hyundai Verna by quite a long margin as only 20,786 units of Verna were sold between Sep 2014 – May 2015. On the other hand, the other two competitors, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid, were at fourth and fifth places with 9,659 units and 9,103 units, respectively.

Hence, from the phenomenal sales figures of Ciaz, one thing can be said for sure that Indian buyers have finally started to accept Maruti’s premium offerings. For those asking, Maruti would launch yet another premium product in form of S-Cross compact SUV in the country in July 2015. Additionally, it is also working on a premium hatchback YRA to take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. The Maruti YRA would be launched by the end of 2015 or early 2016.
