With ever-tightening fuel efficiency and emissions norms, there’s been a surge of fuel-efficient cars. Among these, CNG cars have emerged as a great option for many buyers. For a long time, premium brands like Skoda have stayed away from this space. However, Skoda is rumoured to soon introduce CNG on one of its most accessible offerings, the Kylaq. So, what can buyers expect from the upcoming Skoda Kylaq CNG? Here’s everything we know so far.

Design
As this will be a powertrain update rather than a complete facelift, the design is expected to remain unchanged. What will be interesting to see is how the CNG kit is packaged into the car. And more importantly, to what extent does it affect the boot space? Hopefully, an underbody CNG tank placement could be adopted for it.

Interior & Features
Just like the design, Skoda is expected to retain the interior and features from the current Kylaq. The Kylaq CNG is expected to come equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, front seat ventilation, and much more. Kylaq has also secured a five-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.

Powertrain
Now comes the interesting part. Currently, the Kylaq is only offered with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine (114 bhp & 178 Nm) with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox. The upcoming CNG variant is likely to offer the same powertrain. We expect a 22 to 24 kg/km fuel economy figure from the Kylaq CNG.

Rivals
Kylaq CNG will primarily rival the Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. Given the popularity of the sub-compact SUV segment, the Kylaq CNG will also take on the Tata Punch CNG.
Expected Launch & Price
Skoda could introduce the Kylaq CNG by mid to late 2027, with a price hike of about Rs. 75,000 to 90,000 for the CNG variants. This means the Kylaq CNG is expected to be priced between Rs. 9.5 – 16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
