Toyota is known for its SUVs in India. But there exists a huge gap between the immensely popular Fortuner and the flagship Land Cruiser LC300. The Japanese automaker could soon bridge this gap with the introduction of the new Land Cruiser Prado. So what all can we expect from this new Land Cruiser? Here’s a look.

Design
The Prado, which is also known as the LC250, is based on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform. This platform is shared with the Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus GX, and it is also used by certain trucks from the brand. Thanks to this platform, the Prado gets the identical LC stance and large dimensions. With an upright, boxy design, a flat bonnet, and muscular body panels, this SUV offers a promising road presence. Overseas, depending on the variant, the Prado (LC250) is offered with either circular or rectangular LED headlamps. Adding more to the SUV character are the chunky bumpers, black body cladding, roof rails and large alloy wheels.

Interior & Features
The Prado’s cabin is expected to mark a significant step up from Toyota’s current SUV lineup. Unlike modern SUVs, the Prado is expected to retain an old-school touch, offering physical controls. That said, the retro-modern cabin could be equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include ventilated and powered front seats, a wireless charger, a JBL sound system, a single-pane sunroof and much more. This SUV is also likely to get a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS.

Powertrain
In North America, the LC250 comes equipped with a 2.4-litre turbo petrol hybrid. However, when launched in India, it is expected to share its powertrain with the Fortuner. This powertrain features a 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 201 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque, sending power to all four wheels through Toyota’s full-time 4WD system. This power unit is also expected to be paired with the 48V mild-hybrid technology. To make this SUV more capable, it is expected to feature a low-range transfer case, locking differential, multi-terrain select, and crawl control.

Expected Launch & Pricing
There is no official word from the brand on the launch of the Land Cruiser Prado in India. But we could expect this SUV to launch by mid to late 2027. Toyota is expected to bring in the Prado as a CBU unit, which could attract some additional taxes. We expect it to be priced between Rs. 80 lakhs and Rs. 1 crore (on-road, Mumbai).
