Last month, the Tata Punch topped the sales charts, thanks to the wide variety of powertrains it’s being offered with. Understanding the competition and increasing popularity of EVs, Hyundai is also expected to bring in the Exter EV. Here is what we can expect from this entry-level EV.

Design
Despite being Hyundai’s entry-level SUV, the Exter has a premium appeal. And the EV version is expected to carry over the same design. It will likely retain its boxy silhouette, H-shaped lighting, squared wheel arches, black body cladding and roof rails, with only subtle EV-specific styling updates. Exter EV could feature a charging port placed on the front grille.

Interior & Features
With the outgoing Exter appearing to be decently packed, it still misses out on some features. And Hyundai could fix that with the Exter EV. Inside, we can expect an 8-inch or larger infotainment screen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an electric sunroof. In addition to these features, we could expect the introduction of a 360-degree parking camera, an ADAS system and possibly ventilated seats. Like the modern Hyundais, this one could also feature a new steering wheel with the H-Morse code.

Powertrain
Most reports suggest the Hyundai Exter EV could share its powertrain with the Inster EV. Keeping affordability in mind, Hyundai could introduce a newly developed smaller battery pack for the Exter EV. Even with the smaller battery pack, this compact SUV is expected to deliver about 400 kms of range. With DC fast charging enabled, we could also expect it to charge from 10% to 80% in well under one hour.

Rivals
Once launched, the major rival to the Exter EV will definitely be the segment leader, Punch EV. Other contenders in this entry-level electric SUV space remain the Citroen eC3.
Expected Launch & Pricing
There is no official word on the launch of the Hyundai Exter EV. But given the fuel situation, many new buyers are choosing small EVs as their first vehicles. Acknowledging that opportunity, Hyundai is expected to reveal this EV by the end of 2027. Pricing is likely to start at around Rs. 10 lakh and go up to Rs. 14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which will help Hyundai strengthen its presence in the affordable electric SUV segment.
