The Renault Duster is growing! Well, we’re not actually talking about the sales figures this time. The earlier generation of the Duster was offered with optional jump seats to make it a seven-seater. But this time around, with the latest generation of the Duster, Renault is actually planning to introduce a legit seven-seater version in India, sold as the Bigster in international markets. Here is everything you need to know about the Renault Bigster.

Design
The Bigster is based on the same RGMP platform, with a stretched-out wheelbase. Recent spyshots also confirm that the Duster’s rugged styling will carry over to the India-spec Bigster. Despite wearing heavy camouflage, the test mules have revealed a front that features Y-shaped DRLs and rear taillights similar to the Duster’s.

Interior & Features
With the latest Duster, Renault has made a massive update over the previous generation. It offers a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch driver display, and a 10.1-inch Google-powered infotainment hub, making it equally feature-loaded as its competition. Expect the feature offerings to be the same on the Bigster. But to add more comfort for rear passengers, Renault is expected to offer AC vents and a charging option near the third row.

On the safety front, Renault is expected to prepare the Bigster for a five-star BNCAP rating, as we have seen with the Duster. To support additional driver-assistance and safety features, the automaker is expected to offer a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS.
Powertrain
Renault could skip the 1-litre turbo petrol engine on the Bigster, as it could feel a bit underpowered for a fully loaded seven-seater. Instead, the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, producing 161 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, will be the pick. Later, the automaker could also bring in the 1.8-litre petrol hybrid engine. For now, there are no signs of an AWD or diesel option for the Bigster.

Rivals
The Renault Bigster will take on seven-seater rivals such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar.
Expected Launch & Pricing
With test mules already spotted, we could expect the Bigster launch by the end of this year. Packed with good features and a potent powertrain, expect this seven-seater to carry an estimated on-road price ranging from Rs. 18 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
