Tata introduced the second generation of the Safari back in 2021. But with the launch, they introduced the FWD SUV featuring the monocoque chassis. This new generation of the safari was tech-loaded and modern. With this launch, many enthusiasts believed that Safari lost its soul. To fix that, some of the OG Safari’s key features could be brought over to the Safari EV. Here is everything you can expect from the much-anticipated Tata Safari EV-

Looks-
The second generation of the Safari drops the OG Safari’s boxy silhouette. Rather, it derived a monocoque platform from the Land Rovers. Tata also gave the Safari a facelift in 2023, bringing a massive overhaul to the second-generation model’s exterior and interior. But with the Safari EV, we are expecting minimal changes, as we have seen with the Sierra EV. On the side, the Safari is expected to feature a bold, upright stance with connected lighting at both the front and rear, adding a modern touch. The futuristic identity is further enhanced by the flush door handle and additional EV-specific elements, including the seal-off front grille, redesigned bumpers, and aero-specific wheels. Interiors & Features-
Unlike the exteriors, Tata is expected to bring noticeable interior updates inspired by the latest Sierra EV. For starters, the Safari EV could feature a triple-screen layout with dual 12.3-inch touchscreens for central infotainment and co-passenger entertainment, along with a 10.25-inch driver’s display. Also, mid-trim Safari EVs could feature a dual-screen setup with a larger 14.5-inch infotainment screen. Other features could be really long, as we have seen with Sierra EV. The feature list would include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging, and much more. In addition, Tata could introduce new features such as summon mode (which provides automatic parking assist), a 360-degree camera, boss mode, and more.

Tata, being Tata, is definitely not going to compromise on safety. As the ICE version of the Safari has already secured a 5-star rating from the Bharat NCAP, the Safari EV is expected to follow suit. To take it one step further, Tata could also make the 7 airbags standard and offer the ADAS Level-2+ suite.
Powertrain-
While many of us thought that Tata copy-pasted the Harrier EV’s powertrain to the Sierra EV, we were only partially correct. Why do we say that? While the acti.ev+ platform remains the same, along with the 75kWh battery pack. But Tata also resized the smaller battery to offer a 63kWh battery option. This option claims about 665km and 565km range. This is done to make the Sierra EV priced more aggressively in the entry-level mid-size electric SUV segment. And it is mostly to be carried with the Safari EV as well. Safari EV is expected to feature two battery pack options, including a 63 kWh and a 75kWh battery pack. While the single-motor setup could only deliver up to 200bhp, the dual-motor powertrain is expected to deliver 368bhp (the actual figure may be lower) and 504Nm of torque. Interestingly, your Safari EV could be charged from 20% to 80% in just 26 minutes while you enjoy your quick snack break, all thanks to the 120kW fast charger. And yes, finally, we can expect the Safari to get the QWD, which translates to the AWD, with this bigger 75kWh battery pack. What else?

Rivals-
Once the Safari EV launches, its major rival in the 7-seater EV segment will be the Mahindra XEV 9S. The other rivals will be the Kia Clavis EV and the upcoming contenders in the Indian automotive space, including the MG 520 and Maruti Suzuki YMC.
Expected Launch & Pricing-
Most industry reports suggest the Safari EV is expected to be here by this Diwali. But based on our sources, the Safari EV could take some time. Also, at the launch of Sierra EV, the officials at Tata suggested they are roughly providing 6-month gaps between their flagship launches. Lending some time for the already launched product to settle in. That said, we can expect the Safari EV to launch in the first half of 2027. Priced between Rs 19.5 lakh and Rs 27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
