We already have the Tata Punch. And to fix that, Maruti could introduce its Y43 (code name), a direct rival to the Punch in the coming years. Looks-
Unlike the Ignis, which featured the crossover stance, the Y43 is expected to feature a conventional SUV stance with higher ground clearance. The model is likely to be based on the Suzuki HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Swift, Baleno and Dzire. The front end could be upright, with sleek-looking LED headlights, like those on other Maruti SUVs. This new SUV could feature some design elements from modern Maruti SUVs, such as the e-Vitara.

Interiors & Features-
Just like the platform, this new SUV is expected to borrow several interior offerings from the Swift and Dzire. The features list could include a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, rear AC vents, and connected-car tech. On the safety front, the Y43 is expected to perform well, as it could be based on the same platform as that of the Dzire.

Powertrain-
Under the hood, Maruti is likely to offer the same tried-and-tested engine as the latest-generation Swift. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder NA petrol engine, producing 80.5bhp and 111.7Nm, in its pure petrol version. Whereas with the CNG Bi-Fuel option, it produces 69.8bhp and 101.8Nm. Paired with a 5-speed Manual or AMT gearbox. This setup is known for excellent mileage figures of about 25 kmpl for petrol and 32 km/kg for CNG. Maruti Suzuki might bring in mild hybrid tech along with the engine in the Y43. Also, Maruti could offer the performance-oriented 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine(98.6bhp & 147.6Nm). Along with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission, to competion with the Tata’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. It could also feature the much-anticipated underbody CNG.
Rivals-
The major rival to the Y43, once launched, will be the segment lead, Tata Punch. The Punch is offered with multiple powertrains, including an EV option. The other rivals remain the Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3. Additionally, there are some other rivals, including the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.

Expected Launch & Prices-
Given the current state of the sub-compact SUV segment, Maruti would be planning to launch its Y43 as soon as possible. But the official launch remains under wraps. That said, we can expect the Maruti Suzuki Y43 to launch in India by early 2027. Tata is expected to price the Y43 aggressively to keep up with the competition. The Maruti Suzuki Y43 is expected to be priced between Rs 6.5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
