Maruti Solio 7-Seater Coming – What To Expect

Maruti will launch a new 7-seater MPV in India, the Solio. The model will sit beside the Ertiga in its lineup. It will be a sub-4m Maruti car on sale in international markets. But a 5-seater iteration is on sale there, and for India, we are expecting a 7-seater version of the model.

Maruti Solio 7-Seater – What To Expect

For India, the upcoming Maruti Solio 7-seater is expected to be positioned between WagonR and the Ertiga. It is a compact MPV that offers 3-row seating, which will be a good city-friendly family mover.

Design

The design of this model fairly resembles that of the WagonR. Some might even think it is a stretched version of the WagonR, just to accommodate a third-row seating arrangement. That said, it gets a tall-boy design, a wide grille, and a rectangular headlamp setup. The MPV gets an L-shaped taillight. Up straight, the model boasts a clean, simple design, excluding any fancy features like a connected light bar.

Features

Just like the exterior, the MPV has a clean interior and isn’t stuffed with features. It gets a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless connectivity. In Japan, the model also gets ADAS and a 360-degree camera, but including both on the India-spec model seems difficult, as it might increase the price. To add to the convenience, the Solio offers an electric sliding door.

Some other features that could make it on the list include cruise control, an analogue driver’s instrument cluster, rear AC vents, USB Type-C charging, reverse parking camera, and 6 airbags standard, and more in its package.

Powertrain

The India-spec Maruti Solio is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, NA petrol engine. The same mill is currently being used with the Dzire and Swift. The model could also get a CNG powertrain setup. Along with that, we also expect the Solio to come with a hybrid powertrain setup that will offer a good range. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.

Rivals

The India-spec Maruti Solio will rival the Renault Triber and the Nissan Gravite. Both these MPVs are currently being sold in the sub-4m segment. Moreover, it could be a good choice for those looking for a family-friendly 7-seater to drive around the city.
