The Skoda Superb was a hit when it was first launched. It was Skoda’s flagship sedan throughout the 2010s, and the sales weren’t bad either. But with the rise in SUV demand, the Superb’s customer base shrank, and sales faded. The Superb was discontinued in 2023. But Skoda realised that there is still a small fanbase for the Superb and thus plans to relaunch it. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming Skoda Superb.

Looks

The Superb was displayed at the Bharat Mobility Expo, indicating an imminent launch. The Superb is already on sale in European markets, and an identical version is expected in India. With this new generation Superb, the elegant body language remains. You get sharp cuts and creases across its body to give it a sporty look. The Superb has always been a handsome car, and it remains so. The headlight and taillight designs are similiar to those of other Skoda models. The design is sleek and sharp and does not look out of place for a vehicle of this size.

It is almost 5m long for utmost practicality inside the cabin. Due to its length, the Superb can be a hassle to manoeuvre in tight spaces. Furthermore, the low ground clearance means you are likely to scrape the underbody on large speed humps.

Interior

The interior will have a look similar to that of the Octavia VRS. It comes equipped with a massive 13″ infotainment screen and a fully-digital driver’s display. What is more interesting is the dashboard’s user-friendly layout. You get rotary knobs (with haptic touch) for climate control, making it intuitive for the driver. The overall look is clean and makes you feel like you are sitting in a premium car. The quality of materials is top-notch, with an abundance of soft-touch materials and leatherette across the cabin.

The feature list includes rear sunblinds, a 360-degree parking camera, a heads-up display, front ventilated and massaging seats, ADAS, wireless charging, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, a powered tailgate, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, etc. An interesting omission is a panoramic sunroof. In foreign markets, you get the sunroof on the estate version but not on the sedan (also known as a hatchback) version.

Powertrain

The UK-spec Superb is offered with three engine options: a 1.5L TSI mild hybrid, a 2.0L TSI, and a 2.0L turbo-diesel. The petrol engine prioritises fuel efficiency, so the power figures are relatively low: 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel engine has similiar power figures but gets 110 Nm more torque. The 2.0L TSI is the sportier engine in the bunch, producing 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. The Sportline and L&K trims get a more powerful engine tune with the 2.0L TSI, which now makes 264 horsepower and a commendable 400 Nm of torque.

You don’t get a manual option, and the DSG gearbox comes as standard. This is not necessarily a negative, since it was the gearbox that made the car so fun. The UK-spec superb also gets an AWD drivetrain. Even though the model showcased at the expo was a diesel AWD variant, it is unlikely that Skoda will offer that option to Indians.

While Skoda has yet to announce which engines it will offer with this Superb, speculation suggests the 2.0L TSI and 2.0L turbo-diesel are likely. The 1.5L seems underpowered while the more powerful 264-horsepower 2-litre TSI seems impractical.

Rivals

The direct rival to the Superb would be the Toyota Camry. Other competitors that sit in a similiar price bracket are the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C-Class. But these German cars are much shorter than the Superb, and their direct competitors (the 5-series, E-Class, and A6) are significantly more expensive. The Superb will most likely compete against SUVs like the Fortuner, BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA.

Expected Price and Launch

A major disappointment would be that the Superb will enter India via the CBU (import) route, which means the price tag will be high. We expect the pricing to start at around 62 lakh, and it could touch 65 lakh rupees depending on the exact trim you choose. The Sportline trim is unlikely to be released in India, but you can expect an L&K top variant.

Rumours suggest that we could see it by early to mid-2026. Skoda has a few more launches planned, like the Kushaq facelift, which could push the launch date out.
