Chevrolet Spin

The Chevrolet Spin is an MPV from General Motors and is expected to come in early to mid 2016. The Spin will target the premium MPV buyer and will be priced between INR 9-13 lakhs (on-road). GM will be looking at exporting this as well.

The Spin will be coming with a 1.3-litre diesel engine. This will produce about 90bhp of power and will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Spin will be a premium seven-seater MPV and it will be placed above the Chevrolet Enjoy. It will be made available only with a diesel engine.

Features include an in-dash music system with Bluetooth connectivity, USB and auxiliary input as well alongwith ABS and dual-airbags on the top of the line variant.

There won’t be leather seats on offer as a factory fitment. However, as the competition is now gearing up with more features, we can expect Chevrolet to introduce a touchscreen system with reverse parking camera. The second row of seats has a 60:40 split fold and the third row has 50:50 split fold. It will also feature upmarket and spacious interiors.

While the MPV segment in India has not grown as fiercely as the SUV segment, some manufacturers are hoping that this segment will expand, albeit gradually.

The Spin will complete with the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga and recently launched RenaultLodgy. The current selling MPV from General Motors, the Enjoy did not taste success as expected and company is now focussing on a more premium MPV to woo discerning customers. It is likely that the Enjoy will be phased once the Spin is launched.
